Counter Sales/VMI Specialist

 

Counter Sales/VMI Specialist (hybrid role)

We are seeking a versatile Counter Sales & Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) Specialist who will serve as both a front-line representative in our showroom and a customer-facing inventory support professional at select client locations. This hybrid role requires strong customer service skills, independence, organization, and a proactive work ethic.

The ideal candidate will enjoy interacting with customers in person, supporting internal teams, driving company vehicles to customer sites, maintaining inventory programs, and delivering a positive, solutions-focused experience aligned with Ballard Industrial's values.

Counter Sales & Showroom Support - Essential Duties

  • Greet and assist retail customers with product information, pricing, availability, and order processing.
  • Enter customer orders into the POS system and pick order tickets accurately.
  • Maintain assigned showroom aisles, ensuring they remain organized, labeled, stocked, and presentable.
  • Support other departments with quoting, pulling orders, writing additional orders or credits, and restocking additional areas as needed.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as sweeping, dusting, and emptying trash to ensure a clean, customer-ready environment.
  • Uphold company values by providing responsive, friendly, solution-oriented customer service.

VMI & Customer Site Inventory Management - Essential Duties

  • Drive company vehicles to designated customer sites, following all traffic safety rules.
  • Take inventory counts and manage stock levels at customer facilities.
  • Deliver, stock, and organize fill-in orders, spot buys, and special orders.
  • Maintain barcode/labeling systems and ensure inventory is organized and easily identifiable.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customer contacts, ensuring open communication and responsiveness.
  • Recommend adjustments to min/max inventory levels and product placement based on onsite observations.
  • Collaborate with purchasing to prevent stockouts, identify alternative products during shortages, and support customer usage needs.
  • Manage back orders and special-order items, providing customers with accurate ETA updates.
  • Assist customers with returns, warranties, and tool repair coordination.
  • Support implementation of new VMI programs, including initial inventorying, organizing, barcoding, and product locating.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent).
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Valid WA Driver’s License.
  • Proficiency with typing, Microsoft Office, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math and complete documentation accurately.
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented mindset, and reliable work ethic.
  • Ability to drive and travel to customer sites as part of regular duties.
  • Must be able to pass random drug tests.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in industrial, marine, manufacturing, or warehouse environments.
  • Experience in customer service, counter sales, inventory management, or delivery.
  • Familiarity with POS systems, inventory processes, or VMI programs.
